The KCUSD Wellness Committee provides recommendations and guidance to the Administration on issues related to school wellness, including:

Food Services and Child Nutrition Requirements

Nutrition requirements for Student Fundraisers, Vending Machines, and Snack Bars
Staff wellness and professional development in health; and other health-related and school environment-related issues, activities, policies, and programs. Physical education, health education, and nutrition education; Student health and overall well being
 
The committee helps recommend strategies and as possible assists with implementation, monitoring, reviewing and revising school wellness policies. The committee also serves as resource to school sites in implementing these policies.

2023 KCUSD TRIENNIAL ASSESSMENT RESULTS

KCUSD participates in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program/Grant (FFVP/FFVG) sponsored by the USDA and administered by the State of California. Students at awarded sites receive a daily serving of fresh fruit or vegetable (as seasons allow).

During the 2024-2025 school year, 9 sites were awarded the FFVG:

KCUSD today announced an amendment to its policy for serving meals to students under the National School Lunch / School Breakfast Programs for the 2024-2025 school year.

All students will be served lunch and breakfast at no charge at the following sites:

CEP Sites: AL Conner, Alta, Great Western, Jefferson, Lincoln, McCord, Sheridan, Washington, Dunlap, Riverview, Silas, TL Reed, Citrus, Grant, Navelencia, KC High School, OCHS, RHS, RMCHS, Mountain View, KC Adult School, KC Online, KC Kids, Learning Center, Preschool.

At Kings Canyon Unified School District, we are committed to ensuring every student has access to the food they need because we know that hunger can make it harder to focus and learn.

The KC Cares Food Pantry provides essential support to students and their families, made possible through a generous donation from Mike Woolf Farming and a valued partnership with the Central California Food Bank. Their support allows us to care for our students and families, ensuring no one goes without the nourishment needed to thrive in school and beyond.  

Our Mission: The KC Cares Food Pantry provides essential food support to students and families in need while also connecting them with valuable community resources.  

How KC Cares Helps: Any student and their family in Kings Canyon Unified can access food through the KC Cares pantry. District social workers, student and family clinicians, and psychologists, will refer families in need.

If you require items from KC Cares, please reach out to your school site for support in scheduling an appointment.
