REEDLEY, Calif. – State test scores released today show that Kings Canyon Unified School District (KCUSD) students scored above the State average in both English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics. In spring 2019, students in grades 3-8 and 11 completed the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). Test scores show 52.17 percent of KCUSD students met or exceeded standards in ELA, while the state average is 50.87 percent. In math, 40.42 percent of KCUSD students met or exceeded standards while the state average is 39.73 percent.
Susie Astiasuain, an Accounting Technician in the KCUSD Business Office, participated in the 50th Anniversary New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 1. Susie, her running partner and 50,000 other runners began the 26.2-mile race on Staten Island and followed the route that proceeded through Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and finished in the Bronx. The New York City Marathon is the largest marathon in the world. In order to participate in the marathon, Susie earned a qualifying time in a previous race.

Kings Canyon Unified staff from OCHS, RHS, KCHS, and the Bronco Academy attended a three-day workshop to earn trauma informed certifications. This training is a part of the nationally recognized Community Resilience Initiative (CRI). CRI was the first community-wide initiative to bring the emphasis on resilience through exposure to an understanding of the ACE study and the neuroscience on toxic stress and brain architecture.
